Porteus-v5.1-alpha3

Post#1 by ncmprhnsbl » 08 Oct 2025, 22:30

It's time for another development release: 5.1-alpha3, based on a snapshot of slackware current @2025-10-07

Download from your favourite mirror: http://porteus.org/porteus-mirrors.html (in the x86_64/Porteus-v5.1 folder)
If you're manually updating an existing install, the modules are in x86_64/Porteus-v5.1/modules and the kernel in x86_64/Porteus-v5.1/kernel.
Note: some mirrors may not be fully synced at the time of posting.

Of note:
Kernel 6.17.1 6.17.2 (thanks to Blaze)
  • slapt-mod repos preconfigured, added option: -k (to receive gpg keys for repos)
  • added gui "Porteus Modules Centre", a simple frontend for all the "update" scripts.
  • large iso size bump due new nvidia firmware included in 000-kernel.xzm
  • additions to the filemanagers rightclick context menus: build module zstd, build module lz4, convert module zstd, convert module lz4, module info (size, compression, contents(lsxzm))
  • default module compressor(xz,zstd,lz4) can be set in /etc/porteus.conf that is used by dir2xzm, slapt-mod, slackmod, getmod, txz2xzm, deb2xzm, rpm2xzm.
  • added some experimental wayland addon modules for xfce4 and lxqt (see: <mirror>/x86_64/Porteus-v5.1/modules/004-*) (to use: add, boot to text(cheatcode 3) and log in & it should then start automatically)

Due to some issues with kernel 6.17.1 (intel wifi firmware & cgroup support) the kernel on the server/mirrors has been updated to 6.17.2
and the ISOs have been patched with it.
If you've already installed, just swapping the kernel (boot/syslinux/vmlinuz & porteus/base/000-kernel.xzm) will be enough.
