There are two showstoppers that don't depend on us:

1. Kernel 7.0.x has serious ntfs3 driver issues when dealing with many files (e.g. node_modules folder)
2. Cinnamon can't be built using the latest official releases

Of course, we could release PorteuX 2.7 using kernel 6.19.x and an unstable version of Cinnamon, but I'd rather wait a bit longer than rush a subpar release.

No rush! I'm willing to wait.

The recent kernel-churn due to AI discoveries has been a wild ride recently. But in between, I think it has also been very helpful for the normal stuff, which has been helpful for lower-end hardware. Alsa audio improvements, filesystem improvements, video and network drivers galore.

On my hardware, I really don't *need* 7.x, where the LTS 6.12 or 6.18 do just fine. I wonder - antiX has that feature during boot where the user can switch between an older kernel and a newer kernel I guess to better incoroporate the wide range of hardware etc... hmmm..

XFCE Wayland 2.6 environment switching issue upon first start

Booted on bare-metal, and I noticed that when logging out and changing to the xfce-wayland session via lightdm, I am presented with a big error:

Keyboard Layout
Unsupported Windowing Environment

If you continue, you lose the top XFCE Taskbar altogether. Logging out of Wayland and back to X11, one is presented with:

Plugin "Null" could not be loaded.
Do you want to remove?

Whilst switching, I used the "About XFCE" to verify that I was indeed in Wayland.

Solution: Say YES and let the system remove the plugin. Now things seem to work when switching back and forth a few times between Wayland and X11. Other than that, the Wayland presentation is very snappy and looks like a winner to me.

@nanZor, Wayland support in Xfce is still experimental -- not a PorteuX issue here. The keyboard plugin (and settings) hasn't been implemented in Wayland, hence the error. But I can't replicate this issue where closing the error message kills the whole taskbar. Gonna investigate, but in the meantime, have you tried in Always Fresh mode?

Regarding the multiple kernel choice in the boot, this is not in our scope for now.

Nice! It's a minor thing. I just answer yes and let it remove the plugin and all is ok, rather than quit.

And you've done a great job with the Wayland side. It is visually faster and smoother than X11. And no noticeable mousewheel skips or lags. Nice.

I run the Void xfce-wayland too, so I'm familiar with how xfce is not quite there yet in some ways, but totally usable. PorteuX rocked it by taking care of a few little things I had to manually tweak in Void, so congrats.
