Why I Liked Porteus So Much

I wanted to try a lightweight Linux distro that can

1. dual boot with Windows 11
2. run entirely from RAM
3. run from an iso located at my HDD
4. Support a .dat file for save

But I didn't want to

1. shrink and format my HDD
2. use any USB drive.
3. install grub2

So my only option was to use grub2win as a bootloader, and I tried various Linux distributions with it but failed.

Then I found Porteus, which was able to fulfill all my conditions and beautifully supports grub2win.

My experience with Porteus is great. It's fast, slim, supports all my hardware, and easy to set up a wifi connection.

My only concern was getting the required package when needed. I faced a few problems while trying to use the old module of kdeconnect, then @AcnapyxoB helped me with the new module.

So I tried to create a module by myself using slapt-mod but initially failed to do so, then again @ncmprhnsbl helped me to solve the problem.

So Porteus is not only a beautiful Linux distro but also has a forum with lots of helpful people.

I think Porteus should be in the list of the top 3 lightweight Linux distros.

Edit: I forgot to tell about @Ed_P. Because of his post I tried porteus Linux.

These are the same things that I think, but i interesting that my usecase is different and anyway porteus fits perfectly.
The thing I like that while being able to work in this portable way it manages to remain essential and well supported.
It deserves to have more consideration by users.

Hi Vinnie thanks for your reply.

I tried Lubuntu, Debian, MX Linux, Linux Lite, Linux Mint , DebianDog; nothing worked for me. Only the Porteus and the Slax Linux booted perfectly. But Slax doesn't have forum support and its KDE Connect doesn't work either. So Porteus is the best option for me to dual boot with Windows 11 (as Windows is very slow compared to Porteus Linux).

a few months ago I had to reinstall a windows10 to a familiar, the PC with windows 10 seemed dead, with porteus seemed just out of the factory.
But the nice thing about porteus is that it always stays like this, so the PC will not slow down with time becaus it is installed as new in ram at every boot.
