ffmpeg= which one works with yt-dlp ???
presuming we're talking porteus 5.01.
yt-dlp version 2026.07.08 works here.. (obtained using: `update-browser -y` )
the version of ffmpeg that comes with porteus should be fine (i tested downloading and converting a youtube video to mp3 which worked)
unless there's some other way of using the two that doesn't work.. could you give an example of your problem?
if you've installed other (random) ffmpeg packages/version(s), well yeah, there could be library issues .. i don't recommend this.

Good_Morning,
I have Porteus 5.1 atm ...
OK, I better go back to 5.01, thought I would try 5.1 alpha4.
Are there 2 separate Porteus Creators?? Can't quite understand why theres 5.1 AND 5.01, and which one is latest+greatest.
-uninstalled ffmpeg package
-rebooted, ran yt-dlp, heres what I got=

ffmpeg= which one works with yt-dlp ???
it's quite simple:
5.01 is based on slackware 15 and only receives security and bugfix updates, it has a larger selection of packages available and is considered "stable".
5.1alpha* is based on the development branch(called current) of slackware(that will someday become slackware 15.1) , it is periodically updated to sync with that rolling repo (hence the alpha tag), there are less repos supplying packages for current and may not be 110% in sync with porteus alpha or slackware current.
you're free to use either, with an awareness of their limitations.
either way, my above comment is valid. ie. porteus of any flavour comes with ffmpeg and yt-dlp can find it.
without more detail of what exactly you're doing, i'll assume that:
1. you're running with changes of some sort (persistance)
2. you originally installed ffmpeg(from somewhere) unnecessarily (as a package into the live system, therefore into your changes)
3. this breaks ffmpeg in the live system by overwriting the version in 002-xtra.xzm (which is still there) with a version that requires different libraries.
4. now you've uninstalled ffmpeg from the live system the version in 002-xtra.xzm(which is still there) is now overwritten with a "whiteout", therefore invisible to the live system.
simple solution:
ditch your changes (folder or file) and start fresh (and don't install ffmpeg)
