hplip needs cups?

I have a printer I haven't used in years; it uses the 122 cartridge.
In the past, hplib worked perfectly. I see there's a printing module that's about 90 MB (07-printing), but I don't think it'll be very useful in my case, will it?

I downloaded it with "slapt-mod," but it only works in the terminal with hplip-setup -i without a GUI.
I haven't configured the printer yet, but it should work.

On the other hand, even though I downloaded CUPS, the URL doesn't start the service:

Nice seeing you active Blaze and thank you for pointing out this useful alpha2 update command. FYI I didn't need the update printing-extra line, my Brother print works without it.
